The Mix 95.1 Teacher of the Week
This letter was sent to Nominate Mrs. Laurie Wolz as the MIX 95.1 Teacher of the Week.  We thought you might like to read it ...

"Mrs. Wolz is my son Aaron's 6th grade homeroom and math teacher this year.  She also taught my daughter 4 years ago.  In addition to being and exceptional teacher and mentor to her students, I'd like to tell you about her
character.  A few weeks ago on Sept 19th, Mrs. Wolz was on a field trip with her homeroom and another teacher's
homeroom at Strawberry Hill Nature Center in Fairfield, PA.  This field trip was to last most of the school day.
During the morning hours, Mrs. Wolz class was was walking on one of the nature trails when somebody stepped on a ground hive of yellow jackets.  20 of her students got stung, most of them several times, some up to 12 times.
My son was lucky, he was only stung 5 times.  Mrs Wolz stepped in and was stung several times in her attempt to
help her students.  Needless to say, their field trip was cut short and Mrs. Wolz applied some first aid to the
students on the bus, but the school nurse's attentions was also needed.  She cared for them medically, but also
provided comfort to them as they were all pretty much stunned at what had happened.  The students had not known
each other very well this early in the school year, but Mrs. Wolz commended them for supporting and comforting
each other and showing that they cared about what happened to each other.  She showed them that she cared about each and every one of them by providing comfort, first aid and even pulling stingers out of most of them in this very
traumatic time.  It is for this reason that I think she deserves the 'teacher of the year' award, but will settle for the 'teacher of the week' award."
