This week's MIX 95.1's Rick & Lisa Teacher of the Week is Ms. Pam Cole of Marshall Street School.
My name is Amanda Oliver and I am an assitant to Pam Cole who is a teacher at Marshall Street School. As you may know, Marshall Street School is a school for all special needs students. Pam has been a teacher here for 30+ years. She is a caring woman with a huge heart for her students. She never hesitates to go above and beyond to make sure a student gets what he/she needs. Her motto is "You can't fit a square peg into a round hole." By this, she means that it is necessary to accomodate every student's unique needs and she truly teaches by this motto. She will not stop trying new things to try and meet students' needs. She never hesitates to provide them with materials and the best learning experiences possible even if the money comes out of her own pocket. Not only does she care for them and their education but she cares about them as children. She wants to make sure they get what they need here at school and at home. The students she deals with are difficult and have many unique needs, but Pam loves them and is constantly working to allow them to have the best education possible. Pam also cares for all those around her as well. Not only is she a great teacher but also a great friend. I have learned so much from her just working alongside of her in the classroom. She is so selfless, always making sure the assistants in her room are getting breaks and enough time for lunch. She is understanding about taking days off and just cares about us as people. She ALWAYS puts others first. She will drop anything at anytime to help someone else out. Everyone in the building knows that if they needs something they can come to her. She is a member of several committees and works well on a team as well as a team leader..
