Evening Talk and Star Party
Event Info Include date, time, location, price, phone number, etc.
“Student Life at Mont Alto: 1908 and 2018,” by Peter Linehan, associate professor in forestry. “Mont Alto students have always had to work hard to succeed in their studies,” Linehan said. “Although student life 110 years ago was very different from today (no Internet or cellphones for example), there are many aspects that haven’t changed much at all (students still need to have fun and relax). “In this talk, we will discuss the different social and academic conditions at Mont Alto between 1908 and 2018.” Weather permitting, Kim Herrmann, associate professor of astronomy, will also lead a Star Party after the presentation in the field between Orchard Road and the General Studies Building parking lot from 8:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Telescope viewing and night-sky tours with green laser pointers will be part of the star party activities. Multiple telescopes should be available, courtesy of the TriState Astronomers (tristateastronomers.org), a local amateur astronomy club. In the event of cold weather, patrons should wear layers of clothing and bring jackets, hats, and gloves. Please note that if the weather does not cooperate for viewing, due to precipitation or cloud coverage, the star party may be cancelled.

“Emotion Into Art,”
Event Info Include date, time, location, price, phone number, etc.
“Emotion Into Art,” is a mixture of performance speed painting and inspirational speaking. Using fingertips, palms, and multiple brushes, Tom Varano paints portraits of famous people on a four-foot by five-foot canvas in just a matter of minutes. His creations are choreographed to loud music that is powerful and stimulates the senses. Not only will the art draw you in to see what will be revealed on the blank canvas but the speaking and story-telling will also inspire you to find your passion and to follow your dreams. Varano’s show is described as taking his audience through an amazing journey of excitement, suspense, cheer, motivation and surprise. His ability to captivate his audience and share the experience of color, music, and action is a way to bring people into the world of art, inspiration and creativity. This program is part of the Penn State Mont Alto Family Day schedule of events.
